Parksville and Qualicum Beach offers attraction that will make your Spring break unforgettable.
You cannot miss the 27th annual Brant Wildlife Festival (http://brantfestival.bc.ca./). During March and April 2017, the festival celebrates nature, particularly Brant geese, on mid-Vancouver Island through many fun activities for all ages.
Events range from Spring Break Nature Camps for kids to wildlife viewing opportunities and guest speakers across Parksville, Qualicum Beach, and surrounding areas.

Nanoose Edibles Farm Open House

March 18, 10 am to 5 pm in Nanoose Bay
Experience the “Spring at the Farm” tour at Nanoose Edibles Farm. See what’s growing at this free event for the whole family. Enjoy a tea or coffee as you stroll around the farm and look for early spring pollinators. The farm has a lot going on as they seed, prune, make new beds and transplant to prepare for our coming season.

Migration of Life
March 18, 6 to 8 pm at Quality Resort Bayside, Parksville
Join ornithologist Rob Butler for a fascinating talk. Migration of Life will surprise, astound and delight you while revealing the natural world as never seen before. Coffee, tea and treats will be served. $10 per person at the door.
GO Wild Spring Break Camp – Moorecroft
March 20-24, 9 am to 3 pm in Moorecroft Regional Park, Nanoose Bay

Spring Break Adventures – Deep Bay
March 20-24, 9:30 am to 3:30 pm at Deep Bay Marine Field Station
Children aged 11 to 14 can enjoy a Spring Break camp filled with science-based games, experiments, outdoor adventures and possibly a boat trip on Friday (weather permitting). $250 per child. Building Tour and Lunch

The Deep Bay Marine Field Station is committed to the promotion of ecologically sustainable development and marine conservation. Join the knowledgeable guides as they discuss green building, marine conservation, sustainable seafood and more in interactive group tours. Foraging for Wild Edibles
March 30, 2 pm to 6:30 pm, Deep Bay Marine Field Station
Curious and hungry foragers will be led in small groups on a foraging excursion, sampling ocean delicacies, Pacific oysters and Manila clams direct from their shells on the shellfish research farm of the University. Afterwards, participants will retire to the Field Station for a short cooking lesson/demonstration and a shellfish themed meal showcasing the products of local shellfish farms paired with Vancouver Island wines all prepared by the Field Station’s Chefs in residence. $125 per person (Advance tickets only) Call 250-740-6611 to purchase tickets.
Basic Bird ID and Bird-Watching for Adults
April 1, 8:30 am-12:30 pm (Age 16 years+), North Island Wildlife Recovery Centre, Errington
Dr. Lynne Brookes will lead this enjoyable, practical bird ID workshop suitable for beginning and intermediate level participants. Mounted and live resident birds will be studied, and bird ID skills will be practiced on site. Limited enrollment. Wild Edible and Medicinal Plants Walk
April 1, 1 to 4 pm, Morrison Creek, Errington
While strolling along a forested path in Errington with biologist Jessica Wolf, discover a selection of wild plants that can be used for food and medicine. The Sights and Sounds of Spring at Englishman River Estuary
April 7, 10 am to noon in Parksville
Biologist Karen Barry will lead a walk to explore springtime biodiversity in the estuary. Meet at the gate at the end of Shelley Road. Bring binoculars if you have them, outdoor clothing, and good walking shoes. Free.
Eagle Release
April 8, 11 am to 3 pm, North Island Wildlife Recovery Centre, Errington
Explore nature at the centre and see a variety of owls, eagles, falcons and bears, then tour the wildlife garden. A rehabilitated eagle will be released into the wild at 2 pm. Suggested donation for admission of $5 each, children 12 and under free.
